How a dopamine app works
SemFood is a food delivery simulator: you go through the whole journey of ordering food without paying, and nothing is charged, nothing arrives. It's fake purchases from start to finish, and you know it from the very first screen. Step by step, from the menu to the receipt:
1.You tell us where you are
The app picks up your location (or you type an address) and builds a lineup of fictional restaurants at spots where real businesses exist in your area. Two people at the same address always see the same restaurants.
2.You pick a restaurant
Two hundred made-up restaurants, each with a cuisine, price range, rating and prep time. None of the names belong to a real chain: nothing here exists outside the app.
3.You build your cart
Menus with 15 to 25 dishes and drinks, a photo for every item, add-ons and extras. Prices are realistic, and that's what makes the total sting at just the right moment.
4.You go through checkout
Pix, SemFood Card (credit or debit) or "pay on delivery". The real total shows up, adding up items and delivery fee. There's no card form: a card number field in a simulated app would be an invitation for someone to type in a real card.
5.You confirm it's pretend
Before every order (not just once at the start), a screen says the purchase is simulated, that nothing will be charged and that nothing will be delivered, and asks if you want to go ahead.
6.You track it on the map
The restaurant prepares your order in stages, the courier accepts it, heads out and rides real streets to your door. You can chat with them (it's an AI, and the app says so at the top of the chat), and your phone buzzes when they arrive.
7.You get the receipt
Items, fee, total and, at the very bottom, "charged: $0.00". That's the whole point of the product, right there.
Why would anyone want this
Because the fun part of ordering delivery is hardly ever the eating. It's choosing, building, comparing, waiting, watching the bike get closer. The spending just comes along by accident. A fake food delivery app separates the two and gives you back only the first: hence the nickname dopamine app.
The Free plan gives you $30 of pretend spending per day, which usually covers a whole order. Anyone who wants more of the ritual can get a package.
