The lemonade stand is a childhood ritual in the United States, and fresh lemonade is still the summer drink people order when they want something sweet that is not soda.
The base is simple: lemon juice, sugar and cold water. From there come pink lemonade, tinted with berries or a splash of juice; peach, strawberry and lavender versions; cherry limeade, a drive-in favorite; and sparkling lemonade made with soda water. Meyer lemons, sweeter and more floral, and elderflower appear at the fancier spots.
Fresh-squeezed costs more than lemonade from concentrate, and fruit purées add to the bill. On SemFood there are 78 lemonades, from $2.49 to $7.99.
